The NS125R was the fully faired version of Honda's Italian-built NS125 two-stroke, produced by Honda Italia with Dell'Orto carburation and Marzocchi suspension. The 1988 bike wore VFR750-inspired bodywork and was a popular learner sportbike, praised for its handling and brakes but criticised for a narrow power band. It was replaced by the NSR125R, which arrived at the end of 1988 for the 1989 season.
